Quite intimidating and daunting for some people, there seems to be many myths and preconceived ideas about breast augmentation that are freely bandied about. Unfortunately, not all of these are positive, encouraging stories – many actually evoke images of horror and distress – but these are by far the minority as most women who have breast enlargement surgery are satisfied and very pleased with the results. Here we provide some of the most important information that anyone contemplating breast augmentation should know.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation involves a silicone bag being inserted under the breast itself or under the breast and chest muscle. The bag is then filled with saline and the silicone bag expands to give the breast area a more full appearance and increased cup size. Other benefits include: improved contour and more cleavage.

Where and how is the incision made?

There are a number of locations at which the cut, or incision, may occur. It is common for this to be done under the breast (at the breast fold), at the edge of the areola, within the areola, in the underarm area or through the navel.

The areola area usually results in the thinnest and most minor scar.

How large are implants?

There are options for the size of breast that you want and the ultimate decision is made by the woman, usually in consultation with her surgeon. Many people refer to cup sizes when describing the size of breast they would like, but this is not the most accurate measure as cup sizes vary between bra manufacturers and how tightly or loosely a woman wears her bra. Also, the amount of breast tissue that is already present will affect the cup size.

Discussing a preferred cup size with a surgeon can be helpful, as can showing the surgeon photographs or pictures of the look desired following the breast enlargement procedure.

Filling a plastic bag with carefully measured amounts of water and placing the bag in a bra that is the estimated size desired by the woman is one way of estimating the most appropriate implant size. When the woman then dresses and can see the effect through clothes, they will have a better idea of the final result.

What is the difference between smooth and textured implants?

Smooth implants are often used as they offer a reduced chance of rippling and causing waviness in the skin than textured or roughened implants.

However, a higher incidence of capsule contracture (meaning hardening of the implant) than textured implants is noticed in smooth implants.

How long can I expect implants to last?

There is no definitive answer of how long breast implants will last. It is possible that the wall of the implant may weaken over time and become disrupted (this is particularly likely as a result of an impact injury such as a car accident or fall).

The manufacturing process and a whole range of other factors (some of which are unknown) will determine how long the implant lasts; this may or may not be a lifetime.

When people embark on breast augmentation fully informed and confident in their surgeon and his or her approach some excellent results are achieved. In the main, most women are very pleased with the results of their breast enlargement and report increased self-esteem and self-confidence as some of the most positive outcomes. Making the decision to have breast augmentation is a very personal decision that the individual is best placed to make when they have essential information and understanding of the procedure and its possible complications.

There are a great many reasons why women choose to have breast augmentation. Some women are self-conscious as a result of a small bust size; other women seek a more balanced figure, particularly if they have one breast that is considerably larger than the other; some women seek a breast augmentation following pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding and many do it to improve their confidence and self-image.

There is no right or wrong reason for a woman to have a breast enlargement. It is always a matter of personal choice.

Some women choose to have breast augmentation because they feel distressed and demoralised by their small breasts. Many women in this situation recognise that breast enlargement will improve their confidence, body image and sense of self. Certainly, many of these women are aware that the small size of their bust has made them incredibly self-conscious of their physical appearance and has inhibited them in a range of ways.

It is also common for women who have experienced breast cancer or other medical trauma and have had a mastectomy to choose to have reconstructive surgery as part of their recovery. For many of these women, the attempt to restore the shape and feel of the breast can help the person move on and restore some normality to their lives.

Changes in the appearance of breasts following childbirth, breastfeeding and significant weight loss can lead some women to feel that breast augmentation would be a helpful corrective measure. Some women naturally have one breast noticeably larger than the other and augmentation can be a way to correct this imbalance.

Women that are contemplating breast augmentation should be aware that, like so many other medical procedures, the procedure can result in significant improvement, but it will not bring perfection. It is important that breast augmentation only be done when a woman’s breasts are fully grown and she is old and mature enough to understand what will happen during the procedure and possible implications. Women should discuss their hopes and expectations with their plastic surgeon so that realistic expectations are established and the woman is completely aware of what the likely outcomes will be.

There is no one single approach to breast augmentation. The needs and desires of the individual will determine how the surgery is done, together with the preferences of the surgeon. In most cases, three incisions are made (beneath the breast, in the armpit and along the lower side of the areola) and an implant is then inserted to fit behind the breast gland or underneath the pectoral muscle.

Advancements in breast augmentation have created many more options and possibilities for this type of surgery. The existence of different types of implants, and their availability in different types and sizes has enabled more choice and versatility for breast enlargement procedures. Your plastic surgeon should discuss the options with you as well as recommend an implant and approach that is right for you.

All surgical procedures carry a level of risk and this is no exception. Breast augmentation carries with it a risk of scar tissue build up which can result in firmness than can only be fixed with surgery. In a small per cent of cases implants deflate and some people experience infections following surgery which can usually be treated with antibiotics.

Any woman contemplating breast enlargement has an important decision to make regarding the plastic surgeon that will carry out her operation. Of course, every woman wants to be in the care of a professional that is well trained, qualified and highly skilled and experienced. It is essential to have confidence in your surgeon and also to feel comfortable expressing what you do and do not want. Ultimately, you should feel that you are being well looked after and listened to by your physician.

Advances in safety and techniques that are used by the best plastic surgeons and clinics have led to more women, who may previously have been reticent to undertake such a procedure, to consider breast augmentation. The many success stories and acceptance of the reasons for women choosing to have breast enlargement have also created more freedom and less stigma around women having breast enlargement surgery.

When a woman is contemplating breast enlargement surgery, there is an extensive range of facts that she should consider. As there are a lot of myths and fears about breast augmentation, it is very important that she accesses accurate and reliable information to help her arrive at a decision.

In contemporary society, a huge number of women feel pressured to maintain a particular body shape and body image and this is often reinforced through the media.

Ultimately though, the decision to have breast augmentation is a very personal one. For the majority of women contemplating the surgery, it is an issue grounded in self-confidence, appearance and well-being. It seems that many women who do have breast enlargement surgery do so to in an effort to improve their physical appearance while still looking natural.

Some women choose to have breast augmentation to give them more confidence (or create confidence) to wear a swimming costume or a particular piece of clothing. Others wish to have the surgery to redress the reduction in breast tissue following pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Some people have an imbalanced bust size which they want to have corrected and others have the operation for restorative reasons following a mastectomy.

Proportion is one of the most fundamental things that should be considered when contemplating a breast enlargement. In order for the desired natural but enhanced appearance that so many people aspire to, harmony and balance must be achieved. To achieve such harmony and balance, a woman’s complete body shape and size must be taken into account – from her height to her waist and hip size. A skilled and experienced plastic surgeon will take these factors into account when discussing options and making recommendations to compliment a patient’s physique.

It is also important that the surgeon takes the time to understand and address a patient’s expectations of their breast augmentation. More than just a purely physical change, a breast enlargement should be tailored to the individual and their personality.

Although much negative publicity has existed with regard to breast augmentation, the benefit is that more research has been carried out which has led to important and significant improvements in the products, approaches and techniques that are available. Many implants are now considerably safer and consequently have extensive guarantees. Similarly, a larger range of implant shapes and sizes has resulted in improvements in the versatility of the procedure.

Research and associated advancements have also led to changes in the care that is available before, during and after breast augmentation procedures. Breast implants can be inserted in more strategic and appropriate ways that are best suited to the individual, their physique and the appearance they are seeking.

While so many breast enlargement surgeries are carried out each year, the fact remains that every surgical procedure carries an element of risk. Although the risk of complication is low, there are always potential problems which cannot be ignored.

Breast augmentation can improve a woman’s appearance and boost her self-confidence and body image, but this result will only be achieved if a reputable, qualified, experienced surgeon who takes the time to listen to and understand the needs of the patient is engaged. In this country, plastic surgeons who are accredited by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons need to have trained for more than eight years in order to have gained the qualifications necessary to practice in their area of speciality.

The term breast augmentation brings with it both positive and negative connotations. While some portrayals of breast enlargement link it with vanity and the superficial, the value of breast augmentation for corrective reasons and enhancement of body image and self-confidence is also rendering these operations important.

With so much conjecture about breast augmentation, it can be helpful to have some of the facts laid out clearly.

More than 130,000 women underwent breast augmentation surgery in 2010.

There are two different types of breast implants used: silicone and saline. Silicone implants were very popular because of the natural, soft appearance they created. Reports of possible links to autoimmune disease and some other medical problems resulted in silicone implants being banned in 1992. Today, silicone gel implants are able to be used for breast reconstruction procedures or the replacement of implants.

Saline implants are overwhelmingly the most common type of implant used. Consisting of physiologic salt water contained in a silicone shell, the shell is recognised as safe as silicone cannot run into the woman’s body.

If the implant is inserted correctly and successfully and there are no complicating factors, it usually takes about six weeks to fully recover from breast augmentation surgery. The patient should participate in no activities in the first three days following surgery; this is vitally important as during these early days there is a heightened risk of hemorrhaging or the implant slipping. In the subsequent fortnight the individual can gradually increase their level of activity.

Statistics show that sixty per cent of women who have breast enlargement surgery are aged 19-34 years and thirty five per cent are aged between 35 and 50 years.

A huge range of reasons for having breast augmentation exist. Women who have had children and breastfed sometimes find that their breasts appear droopy and deflated. This can have real consequences on their self-esteem and level of happiness. Particularly for some younger women, asymmetry can present a problem and lead them to feel self-conscious and embarrassed. For others, an extremely small bust size can be distressing and still others seek breast augmentation for ‘Hollywood’ reasons – they wish to emulate others that they perceive to have perfect bodies.

Parental consent for breast augmentation is required for girls aged under eighteen years. Many surgeons are reticent to perform this surgery on such young women as it has an impact on the rest of their lives and requires long-term follow up care.

There has been much publicity relating to the dangers and risks of silicone implants. The primary concern of silicone implants is that if the implant leaks or ruptures, or for some people the mere presence of intact silicone in the body, increases a woman’s risk of autoimmune disorders. Symptoms of this are thought to include (but are not limited to): swelling, joint pain, skin tightness, redness, headaches, rash, fatigue and general achiness. However, many reports connecting silicone implants with health problems have been anecdotal, so their accuracy and relevance could be limited. Also, some research suggests that some women may have genetic factors that increase their susceptibility to a syndrome that occurs from silicone exposure. Essentially, the actual risk of silicone implants has not been irrefutably determined.

People considering breast augmentation should be comprehensively informed of the benefits, risks and facts of such surgery. With this information, they are better placed to make a decision about the appropriateness of this procedure for them and to consider how they may be personally affected – both positively and negatively.

There are countless reasons why women choose to have breast augmentation. Some women are dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts, some women have one breast that is noticeably larger than the other, some women desire a reconstruction after a mastectomy and others are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts after breastfeeding their children. Regardless of the reasons women have breast surgery, it is apparent that for many women doing so can help to increase self-esteem and confidence.

As women decide to undertake breast augmentation, they do so with a range of different results in mind. Some women want to see remarkable, obvious changes while others want the changes to be more minor and discreet. All women need to be equipped with credible information prior to their operation and should feel comfortable discussing the process, issues and concerns with their surgeon.

The surgery…

Although the types of implants available and the techniques for inserting them vary, all augmentation surgeries are performed with anaesthesia – usually general anaesthetic but in a very small number of cases, local anaesthetic under heavy sedation.

Explained in the most basic way possible, the surgeon making an incision, inserts and positions the implant and then closes the incision with stitches. The ultimate result and success of the surgery is determined by three factors: the type of implant that is used, where the incision occurs and how the implant is placed.

The implants…

Today, implants consist of a silicone shell that is filled with either saline or silicone. While silicone has been used since the 1960s and was banned in 1992, silicone gel-filled implants can still be used for reconstructive purposes or for replacement of implants in women that already have them.

Considerable research has occurred in this area and the use of silicone gel-filled implants seems set to increase.

Silicone implants…

Implants that are filled with silicone gel deliver a natural shape and appearance post surgery. The gel that is used is designed not to spill or ‘bleed’ out should the implant be ruptured and silicone gel-filled implants reduce the risk of infection and other complications that were associated with earlier silicone implants.

Saline implants…

Saline implants are designed to provide either a round or natural (anatomical) shape. These implants come in smooth and textured varieties. Many women and their surgeons believe that smooth implants are superior in terms of natural feel and appearance and are less likely to ripple than their textured counterparts.

Conversely, textured implants are understood to be firmer, more likely to stay in place and less likely to harden. However, there is some conjecture about this.

Sites of incision…

There are four locations on the body in which an incision is made to insert breast implants. These are:

The areola

Lower crease of the breast

Belly button

Under arm

Different techniques are used and preferred by different surgeons. It is advisable to discuss the different options with your surgeon.

Placement of implants…

Breast implants are either placed below the muscle (sub-muscular) or over the muscle (sub-glandular).

When implants are placed below the muscle, fewer complications are often experienced and mammograms are often easier to carry out. However, sub-glandular placements carry their own advantages being: faster and more efficient insertion and a recovery period that is typically shorter.

A person’s exercise routine and the existing amount of skin tissue can influence which placement is best. Of course, the options for placement of the implant should be discussed with your surgeon well in advance of your breast augmentation operation.

Breast enhancement and breast augmentation operations are often performed and have the potential to greatly improve the appearance of the breasts and a woman’s self-esteem and confidence. With incredible advances in breast implants and technology, breast augmentation surgery today produces some excellent and life-changing results.

The many different forms of cosmetic surgery are medical procedures. Each treatment has a range of professional practices and procedures. Cosmetic surgery is also typically the most up to date form of this type of surgery, using the latest techniques.

It’s also very much a consultative process and problem solving process as much as a cosmetic type of surgery. It’s important that patients are fully aware of their options and the range of procedures available to deal with their issues.

Cosmetic surgery is based on the same principles as other types of surgery:

Minimal tissue damage

Procedural efficiency

Planned surgical procedures

Patient well being

These are the incontrovertible principles of surgery, and they’re the professional standards under which cosmetic surgery is performed.

Facial procedures

Facial procedures are a combination of cosmetic surgery, patient choices and dermatological science. Facial scars, blemishes, wrinkles and basic facelifts are basically surgical procedures in design of tissue, used to deal with the various issues these conditions create. Dermal fillers, facial fillers and facelifts are typical procedures in these cases.

Skin procedures

Skin related cosmetic surgery is intended primarily to deal with scars and burns. These serious injuries can do significant damage, and the surgery is often related to dealing with the reintroduction of healthy tissue, like skin transplants or scar remediation. Unless this work is done, the scars will remain.
In many cases the cosmetic surgery is essential.

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is the best known form of cosmetic surgery. This involves inserting implants, a complex but now routine procedure for expert cosmetic surgeons. The actual process is relatively straightforward, based on patient choice and a full consultation regarding any patient concerns and medical issues related to the augmentation process.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is cosmetic surgery for noses. The nose is the most prominent feature on the face, and it’s also one of the most common areas of demand for cosmetic work. A nose job is often also a very common cosmetic procedure which helps people with problems caused by breathing issues who’ve had nasal surgery. The cosmetic surgery tailors the nose and deals with any surgical scarring or other tissue related situation involved in the nasal surgery.

Ultra Shape

Ultra Shape is a new form of liposuction intended to deal with the annoying cases of shape issues where people don’t want shape issues. This is a Ultra Sound treatment, and patients can literally just walk in and have the work done during an appointment. It’s simple, it’s quick, and best of all it works.

This is a non invasive procedure. The Ultra Shape procedure dissolves fatty tissues, which are then removed through the circulation. Great idea, great result.

If you have any cosmetic issues and are wondering what to do about them, it might be worth your while to talk to your local cosmetic clinic. Just pick up the phone and ask.

Breast augmentation is one of the most common forms of cosmetic surgery. This is a true surgical procedure, refined to an art form. It allows choice, and is based on the patient’s informed decision regarding preferences and options. Breast augmentation means enlargement, and it’s a significant, but routine medical procedure.

Breast augmentation basics

Any form of breast augmentation is a matter of personal choice. There are plenty of options, but the primary issues are choices of size and shape. The range of choices, in fact, is probably the main issue for people wanting breast augmentation.

The market for breast enlargements is huge, and that’s created a certain degree of difficulty for choices. That also means a huge range of breast augmentation products on the market. The best approach is to decide on a preferred look, and proceed with a game plan in mind.

The consultation process

It’s really advisable to be guided by professionals in terms of choices before committing to a procedure.

There are possible issues with breast augmentations:

Some breast augmentation sizes aren’t necessarily suitable for some people.

It is a fact that sizes can cause discomfort and in some cases postural problems, like implant sizes relative to body frame.

Some inferior quality implants have caused problems through leakage of silicon and membrane issues.

These issues are exactly what cosmeticians consider when giving advice. You can also be sure that cosmetic surgeons track any issues with the products carefully. The cosmetic surgery industry has been spectacularly unimpressed with the breast augmentation product issues, and manufacturers left in no doubt what the industry thinks of those issues.

Breast enlargement in Australia is a quite common procedure, and problems are extremely rare, even with so many procedures every day. Breast implant issues are low, compared to other countries.

An informed choice

Any professional cosmetic surgeon will encourage you to ask questions so you know exactly what’s involved in any form of breast augmentation. The standard professional practice is to ensure that clients are fully informed at all stages of the nature of the procedure, the end result, options and any other related issues.

What you ask for is exactly what you’ll get. If you’re in any way unsure of anything, just ask. You are encouraged to get a second opinion as this is a medical procedure.

The procedure

Breast augmentation is about reshaping the entire breasts. The implants must be secured under the breasts, and sit properly to achieve the desired shape. The actual incision is made to be tailored to the implants.

A good surgeon will complete this process so efficiently you may find the incisions heal well. You can be absolutely certain that every detail will be checked by your surgeon during procedure. This is the real cosmetic surgery, and it’s why cosmetic surgery is for experts only.

Cosmetic surgery includes a big range of options. It can help deal with an equally large range of personal issues, and above all correct the results of injury, as well as work as a cosmetic enhancement.

Cosmetic procedures are in fact sometimes necessary as a result of some types of medical condition and related remedial surgery. It’s quite common for a cosmetic surgeon to be called in to deal with these situations to enhance the visual appearance of the areas affected. Cosmetic surgery is invariably related to personal needs, in some form.

The options for cosmetic surgery

There are always options with any form of cosmetic surgery. There are degrees of cosmetic work, and there are alternative treatments in all cases except where a client wants some specific cosmetic surgery. Any form of cosmetic surgery is done under these rules, and the patient is in complete control.

These are typical procedures:

Dermal fillers

Facial fillers

Facelift

Breast augmentation

Nose job

Wrinkle treatment

Rhinoplasty

Each of these procedures is fully mapped out in advance. There’s no guesswork involved. You can check out as many options as you like, in any of these areas.

Working through your needs

Some people want several procedures. In practice most cosmetic surgery programs are done gradually, working through each stage systematically. This also provide a good working template for the whole program.

Confidence building and cosmetic surgery

Cosmetic surgery has received some criticism in terms of younger people getting cosmetic treatments. Personal opinions are one thing, but there’s one aspect usually overlooked: Confidence. Many younger people really have a hard time in terms of their appearance. Things like acne, or some basic physical characteristic, get blown out of proportion.

It’s very tough on these kids, and these conditions are also very easily fixable, with quite minor procedures. It drastically improves confidence, and gets rid of a problem they don’t need to have anyway. A relatively simple, almost invisible nose job, for example, which is really just a slight change in the angle of the nose through tissue reduction, can do that.

In Australia patients have to be over 18 to get cosmetic surgery done on them.

For adults, annoying personal features can be easily removed or tailored to taste. Adults, in fact are often extremely conscious of these issues, and the cosmetic surgery is a real relief.

Your look, the way you want it

You’ll be surprised, in fact, how little actual surgery is required in most cases. Modern cosmetic surgery is seamless, and it’s an art form. Precision equipment minimizes time in surgery and ensures accuracy in all procedures.

You get your look, the way you want it. That’s what cosmetic surgery is all about.

Choosing a cosmetic surgeon is done with a lot of care. The usual process is consultation, exchange of ideas and opinions, and an outline of intended cosmetic work. Some patients shop around, looking for options and second opinions, or to see what’s available. Others prefer to use cosmetic surgeons with a good reputation for high quality work. Whether getting a facelift, a nose job, or wrinkle treatment , people prefer to work with the best.

Cosmetic surgeon shopping, basics and issues

The bottom line for people seeking cosmetic surgery is quality. They put a lot of effort into finding specialists, and checking out their work. This isn’t vanity, it’s common sense. These procedures need to be done properly, and nobody wants to be guessing about results.

The basics are:

Types of work being done

Costs

The surgeon’s advice

Options

The cosmetic surgeon will be chosen on the basis of providing the best in all these areas.
The issues are:

Risks, if any

Quality of work

The surgeon’s track record

Recommendations for or against the procedure

With most cosmetic procedures, there are real risks involved. The quality of work is considered a risk, however, and the surgeon has to be considered good. The recommendations for or against the procedure are another issue, depending on the patient’s perspectives.

Getting opinions

Cosmetic surgery is a big decision, and it’s quite common for people to double check information by getting second or third opinions about the work to be done from cosmetic surgeons. Another source of opinions is networking. Professional models, for example, often have a “jungle telegraph” among their friends for good cosmetic surgeons. Other people often get cosmetic surgery on the basis of recommendations from friends who’ve had work done by a particular surgeon.

Getting quotes

Cost is an issue, and can vary widely. Interestingly, a price bandwidth is a measure of some aspects of cosmetic surgery practice. The big, popular, busy cosmetic surgeries tend to be a bit cheaper, because they’re getting a lot of business. That’s an indicator of a healthy practice, and of happy customers who are recommending it to their friends.

Making a decision

It’s still a big decision, even when you’re perfectly happy with the quality of work, the surgeon’s ideas, and the quotes. Whether you’re getting a facelift, breast augmentation, a nose job or Rhinoplasty , it’s important to be happy with your decision.

The decision needs to include:

Being satisfied with the options

Being sure that the work is what you want

Being convinced that you’re doing the right thing

Being sure of the risk factor, even if it’s minor

You’ll find that cosmetic surgeons understand and sympathize with the decision making process. You’ll find them supportive regarding any worries you may have about the procedure and the idea. They will provide options if you want them, and go into detail about any possible doubts.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that in many cases, the information you are presented with is tainted by the agenda of the person writing it. If you have been reading about breast augmentation and breastfeeding, which can be quite an emotional issue for many people, you have probably found a startling disparity in the information that different people give you, to the point where some things stated as ‘fact’ are in direct contradiction. Today we aim to dispel some of the myths about breastfeeding and breast implants from both sides of the fence, and see how one affects the other.

Ability to produce enough milk

If there has been damage to some of the milk ducts, the canals that milk flows through in the breast, and even some of the nerves from the breast augmentation surgery, you may not be able to produce as much milk as usual. One troublesome thing about not quite being able to make enough milk for your baby is that less stimulation from feeding means that your breasts produce less milk … your baby gets more supplemental formula, and the cycle continues, usually until breastfeeding stops in around a month. Otherwise, feedings are needed at much shorter intervals.

However: Damage to milk ducts, to the extent that your milk production ability would be even moderately impaired, is rare with careful surgery. If you choose a breast implant size that is not excessively large and have them inserted through an underarm incision, you still have a good chance of making plenty of milk for your baby.

If your breasts were augmented in the first place because they were severely underdeveloped, you might have trouble producing enough milk. This would be because of your earlier condition, not because of the breast implant.

Nipple sensitivity issues

One of the issues around breastfeeding and breast augmentation is the sensitivity of the nipple. You may not be able to feel if the baby has latched on correctly – incorrect attachment can cause damage to the nipple. The same damaged nerves that cause your breast to feel numb will prevent the feeling of nursing reaching your brain, and you might not release the oxytocin and prolactin needed to make milk. When you miss out on the let-down reflex, you won’t produce as much milk – this is one of the leading reasons that mothers give up breastfeeding altogether.

There is a big ‘but’ attached to the above point, however! If your breast implants were put in with an incision under the arm, there should be no associated nipple sensitivity loss.

Silicone and breast milk

Some mothers are worried about the possibility of silicone from breast implants ‘leaking’ into the milk ducts and being passed onto the baby. Neutral sources believe that this is highly unlikely, and that if any silicone did pass into the breast milk, it would be unlikely to harm your baby. Silicone is very similar structurally to a substance prescribed to babies with stomach upsets.

Discuss your wish to breastfeed with your surgeon

If you want to breastfeed in the future, or even think you might possibly want to do so, tell your breast augmentation surgeon. They can avoid the cut-type that stretches underneath the nipple, and go in from under your arm instead. They may also recommend a smaller implant size.

It is almost impossible for surgeons to ‘avoid’ nerves with the smile incision under the areola – the underarm cut is safest. However, it makes little difference whether you choose to have silicone or saline implants.

In conclusion
There are ways of performing breast augmentations that help greatly reduce the risk of not being able to breastfeed. However, you need to remember that a greatly reduced risk is still a risk! If being able to breastfeed is critically important to you, it may be wise to put off the breast implants until you have finished having kids.
