Whether you are wanting to have breast implants or rhinoplasty you really should take your time to find the right surgeon for your procedure. Here, we’ve listed why this process is so important and should not be rushed:

This is your body, you want the best results possible. Remember, you will be stuck with the changes you’ve made to your body, regardless if you like what the surgeon has done. That’s why it is so important to do your research and find the right surgeon who will give you the results you desire.

Communication between you and your surgeon is important. Having plastic surgery performed is a very personal thing. There will be several consultations before and after the surgery. This is why it’s vital that you have a surgeon you know you can trust and talk to.

Look for surgeons who specialise in only a few cosmetic procedures. Of course, it stands to reason that if you focus on only a selection of procedures you are more specialised in certain areas. Find a surgeon that doesn’t list himself as a jack of all trades.

Your surgeon needs to understand what you want from the surgery. One very important thing is that the surgeon you decide to go with has a very clear understanding of what you want to get out of the surgery.

Professional and polite is very important. Getting plastic surgery to any part of your body can leave you feeling a little emotion for a few days, it’s only natural. The last thing you need is a surgeon who wants to brush of all of your questions once he/she has performed the procedure.

Credentials. Make sure the surgeon you choose to go with is qualified to do that procedure.

You need to feel confident in their past results. All professional surgeons will be able to show you before and after pictures from happy clients. If your surgeon can’t show you some encouraging images to back up his work, then look elsewhere.

A competent plastic surgeon will discuss all of the risks of surgery openly and honestly with you. Be wary of any person who is hazy with details or is uncomfortable outlining this information for you.

Beware of surgeons that try to rush you into the process. All good surgeons know that having rhinoplasty or a breast enhancement isn’t something to be rushed in to.

Ultimately the surgeon that does your procedure should have a large amount of knowledge and experience with the specific cosmetic surgery procedure you are having. They should make you feel comfortable at all times, and give you complete details outlining everything from preparation to post-op in order to make things as comfortable for you as possible. I hope we’ve given you some insight as to why it is so important not to rush into your decision for going with a particular surgeon, but rather wait until you come across someone who you are 100% confident with.

Having plastic surgery can have a number of significant benefits that can be both emotional and physical. From breast implants to face lifts and rhinoplasty, people can experience an amazing confidence boost on one level and feel that their body looks more proportional on a physical level. Here, we’ve listed some of the major benefits people can experience from having cosmetic surgery:

Increased Confidence

Once of the most obvious benefits of plastic surgery is a boost in ones self confidence. By rectifying something that was once holding you back, you can feel an almost instant confidence boost which can have a positive impact on a number of areas in your life. For instance, with more confidence you can feel more at ease in social situations and increase your communication skills as a result. A confidence boost may also mean that you decide to go for that job, or ask that person out that you’ve always liked but felt too shy to approach.

A Healthier You

Many people find that when they get plastic surgery to shed those unwanted love handles or have their breast size reduced, they are able to participate in physical activities they would never have felt comfortable participating in before. This in turn can lead to a much healthier lifestyle and a start to a new life of being active.

It’s individual

What’s fantastic about plastic surgery is that a great surgeon will be able to tailor results to your body. There are no one size fits all in plastic surgery and you can be sure that all great surgeons know this. You can talk with your surgeon to get the precise look you want, so you can look the way you’ve always wanted to.

To Correct Disfigurement

Whether it’s rhinoplasty or some other form of surgery, there are many people out there who turn to plastic surgery to correct disfigurements they have due to accidents or something they may have had from birth. These types of procedures can not only help with the cosmetic side of things but in the case of rhinoplasty can also help people to breathe easier.

An Investment in You

You are your greatest asset. Many people forget this about themselves and don’t realise the importance of investing in their confidence and their appearance. You only have one body in this life so why not make it just the way you’ve always wanted it? If this is something you’ve been considering for a while and by doing so you know you’ll be a happier, more confident individual, then why not go for it?

There really are so many benefits to having plastic surgery. What’s more, it’s definitely more affordable than you think too. I hope our list has given you some useful insight as to why many people have turned to plastic surgery to help enhance and even change their lives.

Enhancing your best features is all about knowing what makeup and clothes to wear to show of your blue eyes or even a fabulous new pair of breast implants. Let face it, if you’ve got it, you might as well flaunt it and we know just how to ensure you turn heads every time you leave the house.

Breasts

If you’ve got yourself a great pair of breasts the most important thing to do is fill your draw with a few very supportive, uplifting, quality bras. It doesn’t matter what you wear on top, if you don’t have the right bra, they just won’t look as good as they should so take the time out to go shopping and get your new breasts fitted for some bras. A little bit of cleavage never hurt anyone either, just don’t overdo it.

Cheekbones

If you have killer cheekbones there are a few simple steps that you can add to your makeup routine to really accentuate them. Start by using a light contour underneath your cheekbones. You can do this with a bronzer brush. Then on the top of the cheekbones, use a touch of gold or shimmer. Your complexion will get an instant lift in just over a minute flat!

Eyes

If your eyes are your best feature, there are a few things you can do to accentuate them. Firstly, define the colour and purchase a high quality eye shadow close to the shade of your eyes. This works great especially for grey, blue and green eyes. By applying the colour to your eyelid, your eyes will stand out more with vibrant colour. Secondly, you should invest in a great mascara. Great big eyes need quality mascara that can colour and curl your lashes making them thick and opening your eyes right up. If you really want to make an impact, use fake lashes for that ‘wow’ factor.

Lips

If you have lips like Angelina Jolie, then you’re more than just lucky. But even so, you need to know how to accentuate them to really make them pop. To do this wear brightly coloured lip-sticks and make sure that you go right to the edge of your lips. Use a lip liner of the same shade or lighter to ensure you don’t get any lipstick bleeding onto the skin around your mouth.

Nose

If you have just had rhinoplasty done and want to show off your new nose, a great way to accentuate it is to use bronzer and put a gentle stoke of colour down the centre. Make sure you put a sweep across your forehead too to give you that sun kissed look. Make every other feature less of a focus by using nude tones on your lips and keeping eye makeup simple.

Making yourself look your very best is all about enhancing what you’ve got. I hope our list of tips has given you some useful ideas for accentuating your best features in just a few steps.

Cosmetic surgery has become increasingly popular amongst men and women of all ages. In bygone days, people only associated cosmetic, or ‘plastic’, surgery with aging celebrity’s and fading rock stars. Today everybody knows at least one person who’s gone under the knife, whether it was for breast enhancement surgery or a simple rhinoplasty.

But you may be wondering – what are the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures? Here is our top five:

1) Breast Enhancement

It is no surprise that breast enhancement surgery, also known as breast enlargement surgery, is the most popular form of cosmetic procedure. Although, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the numbers of breast augmentation procedures have decreased in the past two years, they still represent roughly 20% of all procedures undertaken in 2010.

The procedure itself involves making a small incision underneath the arm, breasts, or nipples, depending on the incision method selected by the cosmetic/plastic surgeon. After the initial incision, implants (either silicone or saline) are inserted beneath the chest muscles or beneath the breast tissues. General or twilight anaesthesia is usually required, but the patient will almost always be able to go home after surgery.

 2) Rhinoplasty

The second most commonly performed procedure is rhinoplasty, known colloquially as a ‘nose job’. Unlike breast enhancement surgery, this procedure is pursued by both men and women.

The plastic surgeon’s method of incision will either be an open rhinoplasty or a closed rhinoplasty:

“In the open rhinoplasty approach, the surgeon makes a small, irregular incision to the columella (the fleshy, exterior-end of the nasal septum); this columellar incision is additional to the set of incisions for performing the nasal correction.

In the closed rhinoplasty approach, the surgeon performs every procedural incision endonasally (exclusively within the nose), and does not cut the columella.”

Many patients who elect to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure will do so for purely aesthetic reasons, but there are also a large number of patients who require corrective surgery – such as those with cleft palates.

 3) Liposuction

During a liposuction procedure, small incisions are made in the stomach, thighs, neck, hips or upper arms, and a cannula is inserted into the body where the fat cells are to be removed. The hollow cannula is connected at one end to a suction tube and when the cannula is thrust back and forth beneath the skin, it sucks out all of the fat cells.

 4) Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is relatively unknown when compared to the ‘big three’ procedures listed above. It has the explicit aim of lifting puffy or drooping lower and upper eyelids. In order to minimise scarring, tiny incisions are made in the natural folds of the skin around the eyes. Like breast augmentation surgery, patients can expect to be home in a few hours after surgery.

 5) Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tucks are another popular procedure, usually coupled with liposuction. The procedure is ideal for people who have stretched abdominal skin from huge weight loss or multiple pregnancies. With the patient under general anaesthesia, excess skin is removed from the stomach and the remainder is stretched and stitched back into place.

If you are thinking about getting cosmetic or plastic surgery, there is one thing you must do before anything else, and that is research. Before you even start thinking about your desired look whether that is breast enlargementor rhinoplasty, you must first find out who performs the procedure you want. It is always best to go with a specialist in the field, rather than a ‘jack of all trades’ of cosmetic procedures.

Get online and start reading up about any societies, organisations and certifying bodies that exist in your state and country for plastic and cosmetic surgeons. Something your average person doesn’t know is that it is not a legal requirement for a practising surgeon to be educated or experienced in the field of cosmetic surgery. You wouldn’t want a GP performing your procedure would you? You probably wouldn’t even want a newly set up surgeon performing your procedure. Cosmetic surgery is by definition an aesthetic enhancement to your body, so outside of any medical risks, you want to make sure you are going with a surgeon that achieve the best results.

Take your pen and paper with you into the consultation and write down the answers. Usually during medical consultations you feel very nervous and anxious and this can affect your recall. Don’t be afraid to write down your questions and take notes on the answers, because you will want to do further research on this when you get home. Any confident doctor be will be happy for you to ask questions and will actually encourage you. A lot of the answers will seem baffling and mean nothing to you until you take home the information and read up about it.

Question 1- What boards or organisations are you part of?

Question 2 – What do you specialise in?

Question 3- How many times have you performed this procedure?

Question 4 – Can I see photographic evidence of your work?

After these basic questions that will determine if your surgeon is reputable and capable to perform your chosen procedure, you must then find out about the clinic practices. Who else is present during surgery to assist and are they qualified? What kind of anaesthetic do they use? How long is recovery?

Question 5 – What medical staff will be assisting with my procedure?

Question 6 – Where will the procedure be performed, can I see it?

Question 7 – Who will administer and what type of anaesthesia will be used during my procedure?

Now that you know the level of skill and ability your surgeon has, you should now also feel comfortable with the level of medical care and equipment in the clinic he or she operates in.

The next round of questions relates to your specific procedure. There are many things you will need to know and understand about certain types of cosmetic procedures.

Question 8 – What are the risks of surgery?

Question 9 – Is my request achievable and realistic?

Question 10 – What is the level of complication with my procedure?

If you ask these ten questions, whether it’s a simple treatment or something more serious like a breast augmentation, you can go ahead knowing your surgeon and the practices are sound and that you will get excellent results and medical care for the service you are paying for.

If you are looking for information about breast enlargement because you are concerned about how safe the surgery is, you can rest assured that in Australia each doctor and/or surgeon has to adhere to strict criteria and guidelines of various governing bodies. This is in attempt to make surgery as safer as possible for patients.

Cosmetic surgery in Australia has been made as safe as possible because of the rigourous standards established by Australian surgeons. It is estimated that the mortality rate is extremely low, especially when compared to other causes of death. In fact, your chances of being injured in a motor vehicle accident are about 57 times higher.

Nevertheless, when you are considering any form of cosmetic surgery, you naturally want to be as careful as possible. After all, low risk does not mean no risk, and you need to understand that there are risks with every operation, including plastic surgery for breast enlargement.

Complications can arise at any time, and your surgeon will certainly explain these to you in more detail.

Although the procedures are inherently very safe when performed by experienced surgeons, there are some things which can affect the operation.

In the first place you should ensure that you are as fit as possible before having your operation. Your overall good health is vital to the minimisation of risks, so it is well worth while taking some time beforehand to get yourself to a reasonable level of fitness.

If your cosmetic surgeon tells you that you are not a good candidate for surgery, obtain clarification as to why this is the case. This is advice that you should take very seriously because if there is any doubt about your candidacy, you have a good opportunity to rethink everything. Sometimes, obtaining a second opinion can be very worthwhile but at times can also confusion. The point is, if one surgeon is not willing to perform the operation, step back and reconsider your position completely.

It goes without saying that you should only choose a recognised surgeon with a good track record in the breast augmentation surgery you are seeking.

After your augmentation has been completed, it is common to feel some tenderness; and your surgical team will give you complete instructions on how to handle yourself. As is the case with any operation, you will need to take care not to apply any pressure to the wound to avoid causing the stitches to rupture. There are other factors you will be informed of after surgery. Your surgeon and the team will go through them in detail with you and your support person immediately after cosmetic surgery.

There have been tremendous improvements in technology and training over the last 10 years and surgeons are well-equipped to make major aesthetic improvements to the human body. These days the majority of surgeries go off without a hitch and you can look forward to obtaining the body shape you’re always desired.

In fact breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery today.

Remember, there are tremendous benefits to your self-esteem and confidence when you undergo a successful breast enlargement procedure. The quality of your life can be dramatically improved and, with the minimal risks involved, you can face the surgery with great confidence.

Like all surgeons, cosmetic surgeons require extensive training, and very high levels of experience. Whatever the work, from breast augmentation to extremely demanding and delicate nose jobs, cosmetic surgeons must meet both medical and industry standards.

The best way to illustrate the medical practices at work in cosmetic surgery are to describe the process of getting cosmetic treatments:

Stage 1: Consultation and diagnosis

As with any medical issue, a consultation with a doctor is the first stage in cosmetic surgery. This allows the cosmetic surgeon to assess the nature of the issues and provide advice about treatment. It also provides useful information for the patient, and helps to explore possible options and types of treatment available.

This also enables the surgeon to enforce the requirements of medical practice:

Full disclosure of procedures involved

A clear and objective end result

Explanation of the surgical process and risks, if any

There’s very little need, or use, for a sales pitch or any non- medical information. This is a purely medical consultation, and conducted as such.

Stage 2: The procedure

The cosmetic surgeon will have mapped out what’s involved in the procedure in detail at the consultation and diagnosis stage. Most cosmetic procedures aren’t
particularly lengthy, but they can be complex, and this is where the real medical practices are fully on display. Depending on the type of work being done, treatment may include necessarily amenities and perhaps provision for recuperative accommodation, or other facilities as required.

State 3 Post operative

Patients may need a dressing on the area, or other supports like special creams, etc. after the procedure. They will also have received a preliminary briefing about what to expect in terms of the post operative period, including clear information about any issues like soreness or local specific creams for particular types of procedure. Some skin treatments, for example, require an antibiotic lotion to be applied for about a week after the procedure, etc.)

Whether you’re looking at breast enlargement , skin treatment, nose work or any other procedure, you can be 100% certain the required medical procedures and practices will be followed.

The cosmetic surgery market is the toughest market on Earth, in terms of consistency of good work and quality work. There are few things more personal than cosmetic surgery, and work like breast augmentation or nose jobs are sometimes technically demanding. The quality issue regularly makes headlines, and it’s important that people understand the perspectives involved for cosmetic surgeons.

The market issues

The cosmetic surgery market is affected by a combination of factors. The major issues for consumers are practical. Public perception has changed in recent times, as new technology has made cosmetic work more accessible. A relatively large percentage of the population will get some form of cosmetic surgery during their lives.

The typical demand is for:

Breast work

Nose jobs

Liposuction

Face Lift

Tummy Tuck

Skin treatments

Scar tissue management

Tattoo removal



Cosmetic surgery in the media

The natural effect of high profile cosmetic jobs going wrong and being publicized in the media is pretty disproportionate. A hundred thousand people can get cosmetic surgery with no problems at all, but one unfortunate situation affecting a celebrity causes a major public debate. The fact is that nobody is less impressed with these cases than cosmetic surgeons themselves.

Cosmetic surgeons are surgeons first, and cosmeticians second. All cosmetic treatment is based on medical best practice. Cosmetic surgeons also have to fix these messes, and if you’ve noticed a certain stony silence from the professionals on the subject of remedial work, there’s a reason for that. Surgeons have very high standards, and anything under those standards is genuinely loathed. The “botched jobs” aren’t supposed to happen at all.

The media is doing its job in pointing out bad cosmetic work- to a point. To give the impression that these things are anything but exceptions, however, is way off the mark. Does anyone really believe that a multi billion dollar industry can operate for decades on the basis of regular daily disasters?

Cosmetic surgery professional standards are extremely high. The demand for consistent good work is nothing less than the market norm in this field. The top cosmetic surgeons are a combination of surgeons and artists. Their work is their professional standard, and they’re not about to tolerate inferior work. They set the standards for the industry.

By far the majority of cosmetic work is highly beneficial medically, and in some cases psychologically, to their patients.

All forms of cosmetic surgery, from breast enlargement to the most difficult work on serious medical issues, is conducted on strictly best practice terms, or not at all.

Cosmetic surgery is often a big decision. The reasons for getting cosmetic treatments vary, but they’re all high value issues to the patients. The realities of cosmetic surgery sometimes get trivialized in media, like the simple- minded commentaries on breast augmentation, and other important procedures. These are surgical procedures. They aren’t trivial for the people who get them, and it’s unfair to treat the patients this way.

Cosmetic surgery is a consultative process. It’s a matter of defining situations, and getting professional advice about options and any related considerations.

The cosmetic surgery continuum

Fortunately for patients, the process of making a decision about getting cosmetic treatment is informative and often useful in finding options they may not have considered.

Consultation and choices

The process is friendly for those with big decisions to make, too. A consultation is held with the cosmetic surgeon. This is a purely practical exercise in defining what’s required, and the possible methods and choices available. This consultation is extremely valuable for patients to assess their choices realistically and to get enough information to weigh their options.

The choices provided are a good map of possibilities so you can make a decision with all the facts, and you’ll also be able to get a clear picture of the outcome. That makes all the difference, because you’ve now got a working proposition to consider, not a vague principle.

Getting down to cases

The next stage is defining the work to be done, after the treatment objective has been agreed. Cosmetic surgery varies in terms of degrees of difficulty, and time and space have to be organized to get the work done. That naturally affects your decision in terms of when things can be done.

Fees and insurance coverage are also covered at this point, and if you’re considering getting some work done, make sure your coverage is clear about rates of payment for cosmetic surgery procedures. Some procedures are expensive, and it’s best to have all your facts straight before proceeding with any commitments.

Making your decision

As you can see, the consultation processes built in to cosmetic surgery can help a lot in making an informed decision. Cosmetic surgeons can also suggest a whole
range of procedures which may be new or better suited to achieve the results you want. If you want to explore options, or need a treatment which requires planning like a dermal therapy program, you’ll find all the facts and figures are available. Whether you want breast enlargement, a nose job, skin therapy, scar tissue treatments, or any of the vast range of cosmetic treatments on the market.

Remember- If you need any information or advice about cosmetic surgery, it’s all there for you. Don’t agonize over things which may be far easier than you may realize.

Cosmetic surgery receives more flak than any other part of the beauty industry. The negativity of some myths about cosmetic surgery is effectively disinformation, creating superficial stereotypes and superficial imagery. Modern cosmetic surgery is a very necessary option for a lot of people, and it’s not fair that this vital factor should be overlooked.

A brief history of cosmetic surgery

The earliest forms of cosmetic surgery had nothing to do with the beauty industry. Modern cosmetic surgery dates back to World War One. The procedures were medical procedures used to cover terrible injuries and burns. In France, a surgeon perfected a method or repairing entire faces terribly scarred by shrapnel or bullets, with huge loss of tissue. This was before plastic was even invented, and despite this obvious handicap, the results were good.

The beauty industry got involved after World War Two, when plastics became common, and advanced surgical techniques and better technology made the procedures comparatively simple elective work. The development of progressively better dermatological and surgical techniques also improved the availability of these procedures, which used to be exclusively for film stars and people with the money to pay for them.

Myths, past and present

The myths about cosmetic surgery, however, have remained the same since about 1950. There are a few myths which are long past expiry date and need to be shut down permanently:

“Cosmetic surgery is all about vanity”

This is very much an appearance-driven society. Anyone who remembers the brutality of their younger days in relation to even minor visible defects will remember how much suffering, misery and damage to self-esteem it causes. People have been known to commit suicide. Other people have accidents or unfortunate skin conditions which damage tissue and need restoration. Cosmetic surgery restores confidence and quality of life.

“Cosmetic surgeons often make terrible mistakes”

Simply not true. There are millions of cosmetic procedures carried out every year. Cosmetic surgery has an excellent track record for success by any medical standards. That’s why problems make headlines. You never hear about the things that go right, only the things that go wrong.

Cosmetic surgery as a true medical procedure- Ethics and principles

Cosmetic surgeons are specialized in cosmetic surgery – thats what they do all day long. This is a medical practice, governed by both the laws and the ethics of medicine. One of the reasons inferior quality cosmetic surgery is so rare is that the standards of surgery are so high and based on strict professional standards.

Why cosmetic surgery is so popular

Cosmetic surgery is now widely available, and people have been taking advantage of the opportunity to get problems fixed. The usual scope of cosmetic work is:

Dermal fillers

Facial fillers

Facelift

Breast implant

Nose job

Wrinkle treatment

Rhinoplasty

Shaping (non invasive liposuction)

These treatments can deal quickly and effectively with real medical issues. “Cosmetic” surgery is real surgery”.
