A breast implant and lift is usually the preferred breast procedure for women who have excessive breast skin or drooping breasts. Also known as a mastopexy-augmentation, this procedure has the combined benefits of enlarging the breasts and enhancing the breast shape, as well as tightening the skin and lifting your nipples. The result is a more youthful breast shape, increased firmness and volume.
A discussion with Dr Zion Chan will help determine which procedure or combined procedures would be ideal for your body and desired outcome.
Breast tissue which can become loose post weight loss or pregnancy will benefit from a lift in conjunction with breast implants.
Smaller breasts with a nipple position still higher than the breast fold will typically only require a breast implant.
Depending on your desired outcome and unique circumstances, Dr Zion Chan will usually recommend one of the following incision techniques.
A vertical lift resembles a lollipop-shaped incision made from the crease of the breast, travels vertically and surrounds the nipple. This is a popular technique as it allows Dr Zion Chan to remove excess skin and reshape the entire breast with modest, easily hidden scars.
This involves a circular incision running around the edge of the areola. Women who experience mild sagging or desire a smaller areola size will benefit from a Peri-Areolar Lift.
This technique involves 3 incisions; one running around the edge of the areola, one vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and one along the breast fold. This technique is ideal for women with considerable sagging, pendulous breasts and require a significant amount of excess skin and tissue to be removed.
The implants will be inserted using the incisions made for the lift either behind (submuscular), in front of the muscle (subglandular) or half and half (dual plane). The incision wounds will be closed with dissolving sutures and covered with waterproof dressings, allowing you to shower as soon as you feel comfortable.
Once you’ve decided on the look you want to achieve, you can begin thinking about the shape of the implant. You need to consider whether you want round or teardrop implants as well as smooth or textured implants. Dr Zion Chan will assist you to determine the correct implant surface for you·
A natural, teardrop shape is great for AA to B cup patients who want to achieve limited top fullness.
A round shaped implant offers fullness in the upper pole (upper breast) and a more defined cleavage than a teardrop shaped implant.
Dr Zion Chan’s anaesthetist will administer a general anaesthetic for the 2.5 – 3 hour operation. All surgeries are performed at a licenced and accredited private hospital.
The procedure will involve removing excess skin and some underlying breast tissue in order to elevate and reshape the breast.
A breast lift and implant procedure will result in some relatively minor scarring. The extent and placement of these scars will depend on the individual patient, their skin and breast tissue quality, the amount of lift required and the desired volume.
